Y. James Alabam Allen, 63 of Danville, passed away at 1:45pm on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the Danville VA Illiana Health Care Systems. He was born on March 6, 1948, in Eufaula, AL, the son of Y. James Allen Sr, and Sarah (Carpenter) Allen. Both are deceased. On March 7, 1972, James married Vicki Conley in Donaldsonville, GA. She survives along with their two children; Todd (Tammy) Allen of Gulfport, Mississippi; and Pam (Mike) Missildine of Dothan, AL. His four grandchildren; Adam (Wendy) Allen, Miranda (Josh) Hamm; Ciara Allen; T. J. Allen; two great-grandchildren; Shaylee Hamm, Sawyer Missildine, one sister; Joyce Burbaker of Florence, AL, two nephews; John (Tammy) McArthur of Rogersville, AL, Jay McArthur of Dothan, AL, and longtime friends; Jerry (Jean) Snodgrass and children also survive James. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving on the USS Saratoga from 1966-1970. After being honorable discharged, James went to work for Hysters of Danville and FMC, as a machinist, and also at Mobile Diagnostics as a mechanic. He was a member of 2nd Church of Christ in Danville for 26 years, and enjoyed traveling to Mississippi, and Georgia to enjoy family and the warm weather. James also enjoyed restoring old automobiles, and was an avid reader of old westerns, and loved to watch the old black and white movies. He will be sadly missed by his family and all that knew him. A Celebration of the Life of Y. James Allen will begin at 11:00am on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 2nd Church of Christ located at 3350 E. Voorhees St. in Danville with military burial following the service at Danville National Cemetery. The Danville American Legion Post #210 has been asked to conduct honors. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00am until time of service on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the Allen family has asked that all donations be made to the 2nd Church of Christ. Arrangements are being handeled by Sunset's Covington Chapel at 420 3rd Street, Covington, IN.
