Winnifred J. 'Winnie' Buchanan

WINNIFRED J. "WINNIE" BUCHANAN Winnifred J. "Winnie" Buchanan, 83, passed away at 2:21p.m. on July 5, 2004 after a year long battle with cancer at her residence in Westville. She was born November 11, 1920 in Danville, the oldest of twins to George W. and Hazel E. (Roberts) Chandler. At the tender age of 16, she married Harold G. Buchanan on April 4, 1937 in Paris, IL. The celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death on October 21, 1997. She is survived by: 1 Son: Thomas D. (Wanda) Buchanan of Westville; 1 Daughter: Janet K. (Ben) Wright of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 8 Grandchildren: Earl (Charlene) Ballard of Texas, Diana (Ben) Kirkpatrick of Covington, Indiana, Shelly (Norman) Jenkins of Westville, Pam (Kyle) Roberts of Braidwood, IL, Scott Buchanan of Westville, Sandy (John) Hart of Westville, Toni Hopper of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Troy Drews of Chicago; 10 Great-Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Grandson; and many favorite nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, 1 Daughter, preceded her in death: Judith A. Cox, 1 Sister and 4 Brothers. As a homemaker, Winnie enjoyed sewing, baking, and cooking favorite recipes for family and friends. She had lovingly sewn quilts for each of her Great-Grandchildren, and always made goody boxes each Christmas filled with homemade cookies and candies for all to enjoy. She worked for Danville School District #118 food service for 10 years until her retirement in 1981. "Winnie was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends." A celebration of the life of Winnifred J. "Winnie" Buchanan will be at 11:00a.m. Friday, July 9, 2004 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion, Danville, with Drew Mentzer officiating. Burial: Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Funeral Home.
