Winifred Winnie' Mae Hess, 74 of Oakwood, passed away at 7:55pm, Saturday, August 6, 2011 at her home with family by her side. She was born on July 29, 1937, the daughter of Stanford Lee and Catherine Fern (Reffett) Piatt. She married Paul I. Howard, and was blessed with three children; Wesley (Tammy) Howard of Danville, Terry (Nancy) Howard of Westville, and Lori (Daniel) Huebner of Cedar Creek, Neb. On April 22, 1977, she married Dennis L Hess in Sacramento, Cal. He survives, along with two step-sons: Clay (Teri) Hess of Warsaw, Wis; and Chad (Carla) Hess of North Carolina. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren; Crystal, Terry J, Jillian, and Joshua Howard. Jessica (Bobby) Golliday, Stephanie (Greg) Sellek, Paul and Jeremy Langford, and Trey, Cierra, Noah, and Hanna Hess. Her 8 great-grandchildren; Tirhakah, T.J., Dillian and Bobby Howard. Adam and Austin McGonigal, Sarah Golliday, and Ryan Sellek. Her two sister; Connie (Robert Fowler) of Zionsville, IN, Rita (Jack) Hafner of Oakwood, two brothers; Stanley (Linda) Piatt of W. Lebanon, IN, Robert (Susie) Piatt of Danville, and her step-sister; Sally (Bob) Miller of Westville also survive. Her parents preceded Winnie in death. She was a member of the South Side Church of Christ in Danville. Music was her first love, and enjoyed playing the piano for 50 years at the church. She enjoyed singing, reading, flower arranging, cooking, watching Big 10 basketball, hummingbirds, and seeing her two brother's horse race. She also enjoyed the 25 years as a foster home caregiver for our veterans. She was blessed and will be missed by her family, church family, and many friends. A Celebration of the Life of Winifred Winnie' Hess has been scheduled for 10:00am CDT, Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Sunset funeral Home and Cremation Center, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8pm CDT on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Winnie's name to the South Side Church of Christ Stained Glass Window Fund, and/or Provena Hospice.
