Wilma J. Powell

Danville Wilma J. Powell, 93, of Danville passed away at 8:00 AM on Saturday March 23, 2019 at her home.

Wilma was born on August 25, 1925 the daughter of Earl and Hazel Emma (Fix) Turner in Tab, IN. She married William Powell on October 30, 1992 in Danville, IL and he survives.

Survivors include her husband, William Powell of Danville, IL; two daughters, CJ Trollope of Maylene, AL and Vicki Davis of Williamsport, IN; one step-son, Steven Powell of Crawfordsville, IN; one brother, Gerald Turner of Bettendorf, IA, as well as seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, one step-son, Mark Powell, three brothers, Harold, Maynard and Gail Turner and two sisters, Maxine Smith and Helen Grogan.

Wilma graduated from Ambia High School and went on to sing with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Later she attended Cosmetology School in Lafayette, IN and after graduation, owned and operated Wil-Jean Hair Salon in Williamsport, IN for many years. Wilma was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending her free-time gardening, especially her flowers, working crossword puzzles, loving on her dog "Preppie Luv" and was obsessed with "cleaning".

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 6:00 PM Ridgeview Baptist Church 3838 N Vermilion Street Danville, IL with Pastor Mark Keyser officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, from 5:00 6:00 PM at the church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
