William W. Ellis 68, of Oakwood, passed away at 2:11 AM, Saturday August 27, 2011, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Bill was born on February 12, 1943 to Owen W. Ellis Sr. and Dorothea Mae Buck in Danville. He was the beloved husband of Shirley J. Ellis who he married November 24, 1979 in Chicago, IL. She preceded him in death on August 11, 2011. He is survived by one son-Kevin (Kassie) Ellis of Dana, IN, one daughter-Cindy (Ed) Brown of Paxton IL, one brother- Owen "Smokey" (Phyllis) Ellis Jr. of Danville, one sister- Clostella "Sug" McBride of Danville, one niece- Tammy (Red) Ellis, one nephew- Brian Ellis of Danville, and two grandchildren- Devin Jon and Peyton Ryder. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Bill went to Danville High School and left early to serve his country for 10 years in the Air Force serving a short time in Vietnam after returning home he worked at VA Illiana Healthcare in Danville for 17 years as a nurse's aid and later as a patient escort. He also, worked at Sim's Truck Lines for 8 years. He loved to fish, make crafts, playing pool, and collecting his Vietnam memorabilia. Bill was a lifetime member of the Danville VFW Post #728. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Danville National Cemetery with Pastor Patricia Phillips officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Thursday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home in Danville. Memorials may be made in Bill's name to the Arthritis Foundation.
