William Shelton

William A. Shelton, 93, of Danville passed away on January 6, 2008 at N. Logan Health Care. William was born January 30, 1914 in Basket Station, KY son of William N. and Flora Brainard Shelton. He married Mae Romerhausen on December 23, 1939 in Princeton, IN. She survives along with their two children: Lonnie (Janice) Shelton of Danville and Darla (Carroll) Lenburg of Cumming, GA., Sisters: Margarite Willmorth and Mildred Skelton both of IN. Six grandchildren: Darlene (Miguel) Perales, Linda (Van) Lewsader, Lonnie (Katie) Shelton, Kimberly (Harley) Winegardner, Kristina (Dave) Hinebaugh, and Tim Shelton. Eight great-grandchildren: Ashley & Amanda Lewsader, Austin Perales, Rylee Shelton, Mitchell Perales, Ryan Shelton, Alexandra, and Alissa Hinebaugh. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. William attended schools in Kentucky and later enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1936 and served until 1938. After being honorably discharged from the service he worked in the coal mine industry for 20 years as a welder and later as a foreman. William was a lifetime farmer and farmed until age 89. He was involved with the Washington Tractor Cade and the American Agriculture Movement on February 16, 1981 The Great Soybean Raid at the Ristine Grain Elevator. He enjoyed to read Andy Rooney books, Jeff Foxworthy books, and any joke books that he could find. A Celebration of Williams Life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
