William Bill P. Schingel Jr., 70, of Danville, passed away at 5:56 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010 at his home with his family by his side. Bill was born on January 4, 1940, in Danville, the son of William P. and Helen Lucille (Christensen) Schingel Sr. He married Dorothy M. Pettigrew on April 20, 1963 in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by one son- John (Jean Ann) Schingel of Indianapolis, Indiana; three daughters- Brenda Ann Schingel, Mary Beth (Darren) Barr and Catherine Green all of Danville; son-in-law- Darrell Green of Danville; two brothers- Richard (Penny) Schingel of Bourbonnais, Illinois and Steve (Carol) Schingel of Corry, Pennsylvania; one sister- Judy (Rodger Good) Poe of Arthur, Illinois; seven grandchildren- Kenzie Barr, Korrisa Barr, Joseph Schingel, Jared Schingel, Jaida Green, Peyton Green and Halle Green; aunt-Thelma Woodard of Danville; sister-in-laws- Mary Ann Pettigrew of Danville, Patty Pettigrew of Danville, Sally (Jack) Strahl of Danville, Gerrie (Bob) Winland of Covington, Indiana; brother-in-laws- Jim (Marilyn) Pettigrew of Catlin, Tom (Evelyn) Pettigrew of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Dale (Rachel) Shannon of Westville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, twin infant son and daughter and several aunts and uncles. Bill graduated from Schlarman High School in 1958 and was a member of the Schlarman High School Hall of Fame. He was a member of Holy Family Church in Danville and was awarded the St. George Award from the church. Bill worked as an electrician for 32 years at Anderson Electric in Danville and was a member of Local #538. He was a 50 year veteran of the Boy Scouts of America and received the Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award. Bill served on the Lynch Area Fire Protection District for 33 years, serving as fire chief for 25 years. He continued to serve as a trustee for the LAFPD after his retirement in 1992. Bill also worked as Superintendent for Resurrection Catholic Cemetery since 2003. He was an avid camper and enjoyed working on his model railroads. Bill was a jokester and loved telling jokes. He was an excellent family man and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Ted Pracz officiating. Burial will follow the service in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. " 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home.
