William R. Norris

William R. “Bob” Norris, 61, passed away peacefully at his home in Champaign, IL, on May 25, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on December 28, 1963, in Fort Kent, ME, William lived a life characterized by a strong-willed spirit and a passion for knowledge.

Bob’s academic journey led him to achieve multiple advanced degrees, including a Master's degree in Engineering and a Doctorate in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Illinois, as well as a Master's degree in Business Administration from Duke University. His commitment to education was evident not only in his personal achievements but also in his career as a professor at the University of Illinois, where he inspired countless students with his expertise and dedication to teaching.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged. He received numerous medals and awards for his service, reflecting his dedication and commitment to his nation.

Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Bob had passions that brought him joy. He found solace in collecting stamps and coins, activities that allowed him to explore history and culture in a unique way.

Bob leaves behind a loving family, including his beloved wife, Julie Norris, step-sons Joshua (Kirby) Ensign, Jeremy Kunz, and Sean Kunz, brother, John Norris, sisters, Pam Savoie and Kathy Norris and as well as his cherished dog, Max.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Rachel Norris.

A visitation will be held in honor of Bob on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 710 N Neil St, Champaign, IL 61820. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at Danville National Cemetery at 12:00 PM Monday, June 2, 2025.

Memorial donations may be made in Bob’s name to the Autism Society.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests plants that can live on in Bob’s memory.

William R. Norris will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for the impact he made on those around him. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the lessons he imparted.
