William Roy Martin, 90, of Danville, IL passed away at 11:45 PM on April 8, 2026 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
William was born on September 25, 1935 in Cissna Park, IL the son of Albert and Mollie (Hoppman) Martin. He married Joyce Unverferth Plotner on January 3, 1992 in Danville, IL and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Martin of Danville, IL, his daughter, Lisa Kay (Leon) Odendaal of Fairmount, IL, son-in-law, Thom Gensler of Wenona, IL, his stepchildren, Alan Plotner of Belle Chasse, LA and Angela Kay Bell of Crawfordsville, IN, his grandchildren, Zachary (Taylor) Smith, Mollie Smith, Allison (Connor) Kaminke, Lucas (Sabrina) Gensler, Joseph (Keeley) Gensler, his step-grandchildren, Matthew (Karrie Jo) Koester, Karrie Hole, Cheyenne (Chris) Pettice, Shelby (Keith) Porter and Jennifer (Clyde) Kiger as well as seventeen great grandchildren.
William is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Shelia Gensler, two siblings, Betty Long and Jerry Martin, son-in-law, Randy Bell and one great granddaughter.
William retired from Bennett Electronics after a long and dedicated career. He served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville where he served as an Usher and an Elder of the church. William was also on the Evangelism Committee and was a member of the Lutheran Men’s Club. He enjoyed spending his free time researching Martin family history, tending to his yard, woodworking projects and cheering on the ILLINI.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church Danville, Illinois 1930 North Bowman Avenue, Danville, Illinois 61832. Reverend James Yonkers will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held from 9-11:00 AM on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the church.
Memorials may be made in William’s memory to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
