William M. 'Smitty' Smith

GEORGETOWN - William M. Smitty Smith, 78, of Georgetown, passed away at 2:48 pm on Sunday, April 16th, 2006, at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman. Bill was born on January 2nd, 1928, the son of Arlie Smith and Dora (Botkins) Smith. He was united in marriage to Barbara A. (Edminson) Smith on May 8th, 1954, in Danville, IL. She will miss him. Other survivors include: his children, Diana (Leroy) Stewart of Covington, IN, Steve (Darcey) Smith of Bismarck, IL, and David (Brenda) Smith of Georgetown; his sister, Jean Ray of Evansville, IN; his six grandchildren, Cori, Brandon, Bricie, Allison, Makenzie, and Brody; his special friends, Beanie & Betty Biggs; and many nieces & nephews. His parents, five sisters, and three brothers preceded him in death. Bill was a veteran of the United States Air Force for four years and had been stationed in Alaska. He worked for General Motors Tilton Foundry for 37 years as a millwright retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Local UAW #579 retirees. Bill loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of two leagues for many years. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and a huge Illini Basketball supporter. He enjoyed participating in sports and playing games. A celebration of Bills life will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, April 19th, 2006, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4-8pm on Tuesday, April 18th, 2006, also at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. Helen Thomas will officiate. Military rites conducted by Georgetown American Legion Dornblaser Post 203. Memorial donations may be given in Bills name to the Miss Piggy Fund or the Georgetown Fire Department.
