William Johnson

William "Bill" Johnson, 80, of Mahomet, passed away at home on June 29, 2023 surrounded by family. He was born on January 29, 1943, the son of Elmer and Violet Johnson. Originally born in Chicago, he was raised in Prentice, Wisconsin before moving to Champaign as a teenager. Bill then married his best friend, Carlene (Zindars) on August 23, 1961.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald (Marylin) Johnson, and sisters Marilyn Foresman and Muriel (John) Anderson. His wife, Carlene Johnson, recently passed on September 9, 2023.

Survivors include his children, Sherri (Mark) Vance of Mansfield, Kim (Jeff) Liggett of Mahomet, and 4 grandchildren, Corey Johnson, Krista (Josh) Covert, Ashley (Sam) Curtis, and Kayla Liggett; and 8 great-grandchildren, Braiden, Kamdyn, Presley, Avery, Brantley, Cohen, Journee, and Finley.

Bill worked at the University of Illinois as a Machinist Supervisor for 37.5 years, before retiring. Bill had a true zest for life, particularly enjoying time with his family and friends, traveling across the US, playing golf, watching the Cardinals, enjoying the occasional bottle of Port, fishing and buying an undetermined amount of cars of the years.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.
