William J. Green

Urbana - William J. Green, 79, passed away at 3 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at Presence Medical Center, Urbana, Ill., surrounded by his wife and daughters. William, or Bill as he was known by most, was born in Alvin, Ill., on Sept. 14, 1936 to Donald Victor and Mabel Horner Green. He graduated from Rossville High School, Rossville, Ill. He married Shirley McDowell in Danville, Ill., on March 20, 1960. She survives. Also surviving are his two daughters: Cathy (John) Hiser, Ogden; Laurie (Randy) Clark, Dewey; four grandsons: Ryan (Annie) Hiser, Savoy; Tyler (Christine) Clark, Chicago; Dustin Clark, New York, NY; and Daniel (Erika) Hiser, St. Joseph; and three great-grandchildren: Jack, William and Colton. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Ramona Gossett, Lavona Haas, Dorothy Way and one brother, Robert Wayne. Bill retired from the University of Illinois Printing Division. A printer by trade, he was known for his masterful carpentry, building his three homes, helping his children and grandchildren with numerous projects and always being just a phone call away for a piece of advice. Friends and family will be received from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Ill., Tuesday, May 17. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 pm with burial immediately following in Gundy Cemetery, Bismarck, Ill. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Special Olympics or a charity of the donor's choice.
