William “Bill” Hummer, 77, of Danville, Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Hawthorne Inn of Danville.
He was born January 21, 1947, in Lafayette, Indiana, son of the late Aaron and Emma (Holycross) Hummer.
Bill married Carol Lake on August 24, 1968, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and she survives.
Also surviving are his two sons: Brian (Tonya) Hummer and Douglas (Carrie) Hummer; his grandchildren: Caleb (Alivia) Hummer, Natalie (Cam) McLean, Mackenzie Joy Hummer, Kara Hummer, and Emma Hummer; one great-grandson; one brother: Dan (Linda) Hummer; one sister: Karen (Barry) Shockey; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his infant sister: Janice Hummer; and three brothers: Aaron Hummer, Dale Hummer, and Jerry Hummer.
Bill graduated from Southwestern High School in Romney, Indiana in 1965. He later went on to Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois, where he graduated in 1969. Bill started his 30-year career as a pastor in Harvey, Illinois where he worked as a youth pastor. He would later go on holding pastor positions at the Free Methodist Church of Salem, Illinois; New Castle, Indiana; Danville, Illinois; and most recently at The Rock Church of Danville, Illinois. Over the years, Bill also worked at Caterpillar of Lafayette, ThyssenKrupp in Danville, and at Greenwood Inc. in Danville. Bill’s love for Jesus was deeply embodied in his love for people and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed woodworking, attending missionary conventions and taking mission trips to spread the gospel. Most of all, Bill loved his grandkids. He was sure to tell people often how proud he was of them, and he could always be found in the stands cheering them on at their sporting events. His grandkids will forever cherish the memories they have of going with grandpa to the Swan Pond at Sunset Memorial Park.
A Celebration of Life for Bill will take place at 11AM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at The Rock Church, 20 Poland Road Danville, Illinois 61834. Reverend Tom Cannon will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9AM-11AM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at The Rock Church.
Memorials in Bill’s name may be made to the Feed the Forgotten or King’s Kids Village of Kenya.
