William Hughes

Bill Hughes, 88, of Danville passed away on September 16, 2009 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. Bill was born April 15, 1921 in Rossville, IL son of Harry W. and Geraldine Kersey Hughes. He married Virginia L. McGill on August 15, 1959 in Danville. She preceded him in March of 2002. Survivors include two children Larry (Mary) Hughes and Patty (Richard) Cook; grandchildren: Robin Gauthier, Cathy (Jerry) Carr, Lori (Thomas) Nickles, Richard (Carrie) Cook, and Thomas (Jerri) Cook; and great-grandchildren Mardi, Michael, Stephanie, Thomas, Ethan, Maegan, Richard, Bethany, Ashley, and Thomas; great-great grandson Cash. His parents, Brother Hubert, daughter-in-law Mary and grandsons John and Larry preceded him in death. Bill was a graduate of Rossville High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of Carpenters Local #44 and worked for Razmus Construction for many years until retiring in 1986. Bill enjoyed fishing and loved preaching and teaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Faith Community Bible Church in Danville for many years before moving to Pendleton Assembly of God in Many, LA. A Celebration of Bills Life will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Herb Smith officiating & Pastor Richard Cook assisting. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday evening at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville with military honors performed by the American Legion Post #210. Memorials may be made to the Gideons International.
