It is with profound sadness that the family of William “Bill” Heinz, 80, announce his peaceful passing at his home in Penfield on Tuesday (April 16, 2024).

Bill was born March 6, 1944, in Evanston, to Albert and Charlotte (Schiedecker) Heinz.  He married Pamela Mitchell on June 10, 1967, in Danville. She survives.

He is the father of Wendy Heinz, Amy Zook, Becky (Eric) Helenthal, William “Bill” Heinz and Lori Heinz; 16 grandchildren, Jeff, Jade, Emily (Will), Connor (Karina), Cale, Andrew (Jayde), Lilli, Mallory, Hayden, Taylor (Dylan), Caleb, Lindsey, Halie, Mitchell, Maci and Mia; and five great-grandchildren, McKinlee, Gibson, Shepard, Raelyn and Rynlee. Also surviving are his sister, Nancy (Ray) Weiner; and their three children, Sherri, Gregg and Keith.

Bill served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969, stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, and served in Taiwan and Vietnam. He continued his career with Prairie Central, where he retired after 38 years of service.

He and his wife attended the Church of Christ in St. Joseph. He enjoyed raising and breeding horses.

Funeral services will be at 11 Saturday morning at the Church of Christ, St. Joseph. The Rev. Ryan Rosser will officiate. The family would love to see everyone wearing blue, as it was Bill's favorite color! Visitation will be on Friday evening from 5 to 7 also at the Church of Christ. He will be buried in Danville National Cemetery, Danville, at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or the Church of Christ.
