William H. Miller, Sr.

Newport, Ind. -- William H. Miller, Sr., 82, of Newport, Indiana, passed away at 2:30 p.m. EDT Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born January 21, 1926 in Jamaica, Illinois, the son of the late Joseph and Jesse McMillian Miller. He married Bonnie Jean Jones on August 17, 1944 in Lake Village, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include his children: Ruth"Nikki"(Donald)Moody and Jeanne(Kenny)Collins both of Newport, Indiana; William H."Bill"(Magy)Miller; Leroy Miller and Art(B.J.)Miller all of Danville, Illinois; Phyliss(Mark)Booe of LeHigh, Florida; Tom(Gail)Miller of Dana, Indiana and Joy Miller of Minersville, Pennsylvania; 25 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; four sisters, Josephine Doan of Dana, Indiana; Pat(Ed)McCormick of Champaign, Illinois; Maxine Scott of Terre Haute, Indiana and Linda(Greg)Christansen of Polk City, Florida; three brothers, George Miller of Georgetown, Illinois; Paul(Marie)Miller of Cayuga, Indiana and Harley"Bud"(Sandra)Miller of Oakwood, Illinois. He was preceded in death by one brother, James"Jim"Miller. William was a retired member of the Teamsters Local #26, formerly working for Producers Dairy/Prairie Farms Dairy in Danville, Illinois. He was a veteran of W.W. II. William was a Sergeant and M.P. with the United States Army and survived the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Union Corner United Methodist Church and a former board member of the Union Corner Grade School. William was also a past 4-H Leader in Vermillion County, Indiana. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and working on word search puzzles. He and his wife, Bonnie enjoyed wintering in Lake Placid, Florida. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EDT Monday, October 6, 2008 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jon Overbey; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana with military graveside rites by the Cayuga American Legion Post #263; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Sunday, October 5, 2008 at the funeral home.
