William Guffey

William "Bill" Guffey passed away on October 13, 2016 in Clermont, FL. He was born May 11, 1928 in Danville, IL, the son of Fred and Myrtle Guffey. He married Shirley Abbott on June 26, 1949. She preceded him in death in 1972. They had two children, William "Bill" (Elisabeth) Guffey and Susan J. Meyer (twins); grandson, Mitchell (Sasha) Meyer; great-grandson, Oliver Meyer. Bill graduated from Danville High School in 1947 where he played varsity basketball and football. Bill was a member of the Illinois Militia, the Illinois National Guard and the Army Reserve for many years. He worked for the Western Electric Company and AT&T Diagnostics, retiring after 33 years. He was married on December 21, 1974 to Sara Jane Kelly, who survives. After retiring in 1974 to Sara Jane Kelly, who survives. After retiring in 1984 they spent some years motor homing throughout the US, Canada and Mexico, finally settling in Lakeland, FL in 1994. In 1998, they moved to Clermont, FL where they currently reside. His hobbies were golf, singing karaoke at nursing homes and flower gardening. He was a member of the Clermont United Methodist Church. He was a head usher for 5 years and ushered for some years before that. He was a lifetime member of the Danville Elks Lodge 332 and the Apollo Motor Home Club. A visitation will be 10-11 AM, Thursday, October, 20, 2016 Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion, Danville, IL 61834. Service will be held at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
