William G. 'Bill' Emrich

William G. “Bill” Emrich, of Georgetown, passed away at 9:55am, Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at home. He was born in Dixon, Illinois, the son of Dwight and Ruth {Stuart} Emrich on June 30, 1928. He was united in marriage to Gloria Rayhorn on June 20, 1953. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by: his son, Tracy (Anita) Emrich of Chillicothe, IL; his daughter, Kara (Steve) Rhoden of Georgetown; his six grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bill graduated from Winslow High School in 1946 and later graduated from University of Illinois in 1950 with a Bachelors Degree in Science Civil Engineering. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War. In the Army, he worked in drafting room in the Army Chemical Corps as a PFC at Edgewood Arsenal, Edgewood, Maryland, where most of the GIs were college graduates. Bill worked with the Federal Highway Administration for 30 years and retired as the Deputy Regional Administrator for Region 5 which included the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, & Wisconsin. While there, he was intricately involved in building the interstate highway system. Bill was a faithful Cubs, Bears, & Illini fan, rarely missing a game. He loved his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A Visitation will be held 12:00pm-1:00pm, Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville and per his request, the casket will remain closed. He will be laid to rest in Rock Lily Cemetery, Winslow, IL, on Tuesday at Noon. Memorial donations may be given in his name to: Danville Rescue Mission.
