William Earl Peyton, 83, of Covington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville. He was born on November 20, 1938, in Covington, IN, the son of Charles and Katie (Smith) Peyton. He was united in marriage for 62 years to Janet Ann Cade on December 18, 1959. She will deeply miss him.
He will be dearly missed by his sons, Curt (Michele) Peyton and Brian (Holly) Peyton; daughter, Diana Peyton; daughter in love, Kamala Hinkle; grandchildren, Marissa Rennaker, Maissie (Nathen) Jenkins, Tiara Trippett, Taylor Peyton, Brice (Brittni) Peyton, Katye (Lawrence) Siudmak, Jakob Zarn, Briley Peyton, Tabitha (Josh) Barton, and Chelsea (Codi) Hart. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Peyton; sister, Vivian Shultz.
Earl was in the carpenters union for some time, then later worked for the Covington School District for 35 years. He was devoted to his faith, being a member for 47 years to the First Church of Christ in Covington, where he was also an elder of the church. Earl was also a member of the Apple Fest Board and President of the Lower Mounds Cemetery Association. He was very active in the Covington Community, attending many events throughout the year. Earl loved all sports; he was a little league coach for many years and enjoyed playing slow pitch softball till he was 60. He loved attending all the Covington sport, especially when his grandchildren were playing. Earl had never met a stranger and would do anything for anybody. Earl was a family man; he loved his family and cherished all the time they spent together.
A celebration of Earls life will be held at 10:00am (EST) on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at First Church of Christ in Covington, 615 5th St, Covington, IN 47932. Pastor Joey Emrick will be officiating the service. A visitation will be held from 4:00 -7:00pm (EST) on Monday, May 9, 2022, at First Church of Christ in Covington. He will be laid to rest in Lower Mounds Cemetery in Covington. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, IN, 420 3rd St. Covington, IN 47932, is assisting the family with arrangements.
