Danville- William Robert "Bob" Montgomery, 82, of Danville passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012 at the VA Illiana Health Care Systems in Danville. He was born on February 9, 1930 in Ft. Wayne, IN to William Everett and Helia Yeager Montgomery. He married Mary Faye Smith on June 16, 1954 in Columbia, MS. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2004. Surviving are three children, William Robert Montgomery, Jr. of Danville, Doris (Bill) Mahoney of Maitland, FL, and Mary (Rich) Durnell of Catlin; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. Bob served his country in the Air Force as part of the Alaskan Air Command during the Korean War. After his service his worked as a pressman for Printing Impressions in Champaign, and Interstate Printing in Danville. Bob was a 60 year member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #210 in Danville where he was very active in the activities and funeral detail and a member of the 40-8. He was also a member of the VFW 728 and a 32nd degree Mason in the Anchor Lodge. Bob also belonged to the Gao Grotto , the Ansar Shrine, and the York Scottish Rite. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bob Montgomery will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the VA Protestant Chapel in Danville. Reverend James Blue will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will take place following at the Danville National Cemetery, where American Legion Post #210 will conduct military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Building Fund or the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
