William 'Bill' White

William (Bill) White, 97, of Alvin, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at his home where he was born and lived for all of his 97 years. He was born on July 27, 1926 in Alvin to Charles Harrison and Hortense R. (Smith) White. He married Evelyn (Reese) (Blondie) White and they were married for 68 years before her death on February 14, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Margaret (Emil) Brain. Bill is survived by five children; Rick (Donna) White of Alvin; Terry (Bob) Dines of Alvin; Hopper (Mary) White of Alvin; Billie (Mike) Kinnett of Havana, Florida; and Russell (Amanda) White of Rossville. When Bill died he had 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd (Maxine) White of Danville; and one Jack Russell Terrier, Sonny.

Bill was a farmer his entire life and had multiple talents. He was fondly known as Bills Stop and Swap, Whites Hydraulic Jack Repair, Bills Mower Shop and the Junk Man. He was well known for growing and selling some of the best sweetcorn in the area. He loved making a deal of any kind and a small sale was just as important as the big sales to him.

Bill was also known for his little dogs. His last dog, Sonny was his best friend and constant companion.

To know Bill was to like Bill. He was a simple, generous and unique man who left an impression on everyone he met and anyone who knew him will have a "Bill White" story. Bill always said "I should write a book" because some of his antics and stories were unbelievable. He was also an accomplished accordion, organ and piano player, even though he never took a lesson.

A celebration of his unique life will be visitation on Thursday, February 1st, at Crossroads Christian Church 3613 N. Vermilion St, Danville, IL. 61832 from 3:00 7:00 PM and funeral Friday, February 2nd, at Crossroads Christian Church at 10:00 AM followed by burial at Gundy Cemetery. Pastor Miles Clark is officiating the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can made to Bismarck Blessings, PO Box 354, Bismarck or Rossville-Alvin Snack Pack, 350 N. Chicago, Rossville. Bill was a supporter of each of these programs and donations should be made in his honor.

The family would like to send a special thank you to his junkyard buddies and his two care givers, Stacy Burkhamer and Teresa Clawson. Please join Bills family in sharing your "Bill White" story and/or photos through his Tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
