Danville – William “Bill” J. Unekis, 73, of Danville, passed away at 9:15 AM on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at his home. He was born on September 20, 1952, in Danville to Michael Charles and Luella (Rhodenbaugh) Unekis. Bill married Lisa Jean Watson on November 23, 1991. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Baylee (Zach) Carter of Covington, IN; four grandchildren, Lauren McKinney and Daniel McKinney of Danville, Michael Emory and Ryan Emory of Tilton; a brother, John Unekis of Columbia, SC; and several nieces and nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Donna Kathleen McKinney and Michael Unekis; and three siblings, Sondra Wabel, Robert “Bob” Unekis, and Tom Unekis.
Bill was a tool/die maker at Danville Metal Stamping until his retirement. He was proud of his beloved 1972 Pontiac Firebird that was the topic of many conversations with family and at the car shows he would frequent. Bill also enjoyed discussing his extensive coin collection and anything dealing with history. He liked watching game shows and would most often be found with his special dog, Doug the Pug.
A service to celebrate the life of William “Bill” Unekis will be held at 1 PM on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Thursday, December 18, also at Sunset in Danville.
