William 'Bill' Serpinas, 93, a lifetime resident of Westville passed away at his home on November 17, 2023. Recognized this past Sesquicentennial as the oldest Westville resident, Bill was born on December 15, 1929 in Westville to parents Frances and Charles Serpinas. He attended Westville High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. Soon after graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country until his discharge in 1953.
In December of 1955, Bill married the love of his life, Olive, at St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. A little over a year later, Bill had an unfortunate accident while working at the railroad that left him as a bilateral amputee for the remainder of his life. Even after his accident, Bill kept a positive outlook on life. He was always laughing and was quick with a joke. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and could often be found outside, typically tending to his garden, fishing, or feeding the birds. If indoors, he was usually doing a crossword puzzle or wordsearch.
He and Olive expanded their family when they adopted their daughter, Debra Dobson. He was a wonderful, loving, caring father to Debra. She survives in Westville. Also surviving are his granddaughter Samaya Dobson, special friends Benny Bazsis and Joe Miles, and many great neighbors he considered close friends. He was taken great care of these past few years by Jenny Johnson, Tracey Cope Stevens, and Kathy Warner. His loyal companions Porkie and Peanut will miss the infinite amounts of crackers and bread he would sneak them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers Charles, Michael, Anthony, Adam, and Stanley Serpinas; his sister Donna Langdon; and his dogs Lady, Pixie, and Moosie.
A visitation for Bill will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 2- 4 pm at
