William Allen Schleuter, age 79 of Oakwood, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 at 12:32 PM at the VA Illiana Healthcare Systems in Danville. He was born March 24, 1936 in Sandoval, IL to Eugene Allen and Della Marie (Williams) Schleuter. He married Margie Ann Hendricks on March 16, 1963 in Danville. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2004. Surviving are his close friend and angel for the last 6 years, Phyllis Dubree; daughter, Carrie Glithero of Fairmount; granddaughter, April (fianc, Loren Burroughs) Lomax of Chrisman; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; Phyllis' children, Debbra, Jimmy, and Michael; and his golfing buddies, Les, Ray, Tom, Charlie, Jerry, and many more he shared the green with. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter, Cindy Lomax, and sister, Barbara. Bill was a machinist at Holmes Brothers in Danville for 42 years. He also worked as a machinist during the time he served his country in the US Airforce. He was an Honorable Airman during his service. Bill enjoyed playing golf. He was very talented at painting, woodworking, and carving. Bill made many board games for his family and friends and gave them away for Christmas. He was a member of Oakwood Christian Church serving as an elder and secretary. Bill also was secretary for the Oakwood Library. The family would like to send a special thank you to the caregivers at the VA Illiana Healthcare System, palliative care unit, for the love and care they showed to their loved one. A celebration of Bill's life will be Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Danville. Pastor David Birch and Dennis Divan will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion post 210. Visitation will be held prior to the service Saturday from 11-1pm. The family would like to extend an invitation for anyone to join with them in a meal and time of fellowship at Oakwood Christian Church immediately after the burial.
