William 'Bill' Roberts

William "Bill" Roberts, 82, of Danville, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Bill was born in West Terre Haute, Indiana, on March 10, 1935, the son of Jae C.and Ramona (Kneller) Roberts. On October 3, 1965, he married the love of his life, Marquita Peavler. Bill is survived by daughters, Tammy Caputo (Jim), Debbie Sarko (Bob), Pam Ray (Jack); sons, Rick Shaffer (Amelia), Richard Roberts (Belinda), sister, Helen Hypes; special brother-in-law, Jed Peavler; special friends George Foehrer, George Clawson and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Terri Cornell and sister Sue Klinkow. Bill was a graduate of Beaver High School in Bluefield, West Virginia. He served as a Staff Sergeant (SSGT) in the United States Marine Corps with "George" Company 3rd Battalion 4th Marines the "Thundering Third" from 1954 - 1962. He worked for 7 years at Sunbeam Bread and later retired from Kelly Potato Chips after working 29+ years for the company. Bill was an excellent bowler, scoring a perfect 300 in 1998 at the age of 63. He was also the lead singer and guitarist in his band the Rhythm Drifters. Bill was a member of the Westville American Legion as well as an avid Cardinals fan. He loved talking to and taking care of people and for that he will be truly missed by all. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10am Thursday January 4, 2018, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2018, from 4pm to 7pm at the funeral home.
