Danville- William Rayburn "Bill" Carpenter, 70, of Danville passed away peacefully at 8:23 am on July 8, 2016 at his residence. "Bill" was born on February 26, 1946 in Danville, IL the son of Rayburn and Dee Al (Kuykendall) Carpenter. He married Linda Stinespring on June 11, 1966 and she preceded him in death on October 1, 2014. Survivors include one son: Troy Carpenter of Oakwood, IL, one daughter: Heather (Joseph) Carpenter of Bismarck, IL, three grandchildren: Cody Carpenter of Oakwood, Carissa and Bailey Carpenter of Bismarck, IL and his best friend "Laci" his Sheltie dog. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; Linda. "Bill" worked for four years as an apprentice in Design Drafting with the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad and the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was employed with General Electric Co. in Design, Planning and Production Supervision and twenty-six years with Quaker Oats as a Plant Production and Logistics Supervisor and retired in 2004. "Bill" enjoyed tending to his yard, garden and flowers and spending time in the outdoors fishing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending as many of their activities as he could. "Bill" also enjoyed spending time with his retirement friends and eating lunch with the "Ol' Bastard Club" buddies. He was also known by many for his assistance of his son and grandson's dirt bike racing careers. He was cherished and loved by his children and grandchildren and will be missed greatly. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday July 13, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Carpenter. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held prior to services on Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
