William "Bill" Woodard, Jr., 63, lifelong resident of Cayuga passed away on October 6, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on May 28, 1960 in Danville to parents Sandra and William Woodard, Sr. They preceded him.
Bill attended and graduated from North Vermilion High before pursuing his bachelors degree in special education. He first began his teaching career in Attica, serving as both a physical education and a special education teacher. He began his coaching career in Attica as well, starting with softball. It eventually expanded to include track, football, and basketball when he began teaching at North Vermillion. He eventually retired in May of 2022 after teaching for 32 years, but soon enough he was back in the schools but this time as a substitute teacher, nearly every day.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his buddies, cheering on Ohio State football and the Minnesota Vikings, and attending concerts and Bluegrass festivals. When home, he could usually be found hanging out in the garage with his friends and his loyal pitbull Fat Boy by his side, until Fat Boys passing a couple of years ago.
Bill is also preceded in death by lifelong friend Tim (Connie) King, Former North Vermillion Coach and Youth Football Coach Jr. Martin, and his concert buddy Nick (Chubbs) Ellis.
Bill married his wife, Julie, after 16 years together on October 19, 2022. She survives. Also surviving are his children Brayden (Angelica) Woodard, Regan (Chase) Kline, Kelsey Payne, and Kailynne Straw; and his grandchildren Tate Kline, Kamari Payne, Jenae Payne, Makaeya High, and Waylon Foster. He also leaves behind his brother Scott (Susan) Woodward; sister-in-law Christina (Christopher) Bryant; nieces Lindzi (Macabe Pankey) Woodard, Amelia, and Flynn; nephews Gage Woodard, C.J. and Damien; and great-nephews Zander and Cabey Pankey. He will be missed by many friends, including his cousin and best friend Tom (Kim) Bennett, riding buddies Jeff (Lorri) McIntyre, Jeff (Mandy) Wann, Derek (Dee) Spann, and coaching buddy Sam (Meghan Doss) Karr; plus the many friends, coaches, teachers, players, and students that have blessed his life. Bill had way too many friends to mention everybody!
A visitation for Bill will take place on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 4-7pm EST at Sunset Funeral Homes DeVerter Chapel, located at 215 N. Division Street, in Cayuga, Indiana. A Celebration of Bills Life will take place at a later date. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded.
