William E. (Bill) Padfield, 63, passed away at 1:07 p.m., Friday February 29, 2008, at his home with his wife of 40 years at his side. He fought a long hard battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease) for several years. Bill was born in Bremerton, Washington on March 6, 1944, the son of the late Cecil A. and Eva A. McGaughey Padfield. He graduated from Ballard High School in Seattle in 1962, and received his bachelors degree in accounting from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1967. On August 12, 1967, he married Cecilia Rappin in Coeur dAlene, Idaho. That same year he entered the Marine Corps Basic School in Quantico, Virginia for officer training. He served with the Third Marine Division in Quang Tri province in South Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Upon finishing his service with the Marine Corps, he became an accountant for Continental Can Company, living in various cities, being transferred and promoted by the company. In 1988, Bill came to Danville to serve as the plant controller of the local U S Can plant, where he worked for 15 years. Bills greatest love in life was to drive his convertible with the top down, and he and his wife traveled all over the United States that way. He also loved playing his guitar, walking on ocean beaches, the Chicago Cubs, and ice cold beer. The family wishes to give thanks to all of the people at Carle Hospice who eased Bill through this journey, especially Linda, Renee and Chaplain Sandy. Also thanks to Tasha of Right at Home for caring for him in his last month. A celebration of life evening service for William E. (Bill) Padfield will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, with Reverend James Blue officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service. Per Bills wishes, cremation will follow . Memorials may be sent in Bills name to Carle Hospice Memorial Fund, 611 W.
