Danville, IL William "Bill" K. Goetzelman, 85, of Danville, IL., passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at his home.
Bill was born on November 12, 1937, in Chicago, IL. the son of the late Lawrence and Virginia (Moore) Goetzelman. Bill first married Sharon Ellis. Later in life, he fell in love with his special companion Pat Beresford and her family with whom he enjoyed 35 years with.
Survivors include his sons: Don (Teresa) Goetzelman of Danville, IL., Ron (Paula) Goetzelman of Danville, IL. And Kevin (Jennifer) Goetzelman of Danville, IL. Grandchildren: Karissa, Kirsten, Katie, Zachary (Kayla) Goetzelman, Kayla, Ashley and Jared; great-grandchildren: Zayla, Carter, Roman, Hudson, Evan, James, and Rylan; nephews: Brian Carnaghi and Brad (Lisa) Goetzelman; nieces: Susan Goetzelman Lindsay and Beth Washkowiak. Also surviving, "the daughters he never had" Tammy Grimshaw, Patty Walters, Marcia Draper, and special friends: Ray Montgomery, Rich Beyer, Jim Wheat and Lawrence Holst.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Goetzelman.
Bill was a graduate of Danville High School. After graduation, Bill served in the United States Marine Corp Reserves and worked for the Railway Express Company. Bill went on to own and operate Goetz Pet Shop in Danville, IL for over thirty years. Bill was never known to take life slow. After successfully running his own business, he moved to Bradenton, Florida where he proudly held the same spot at the Red Barn flea market selling things that caught his eye for over thirty years. Bill could also be found at the family-owned Cabinet City Granite and Marble in Tilton, IL. giving his family a hand with whatever needed done around the shop. Bill loved his family dearly and took every opportunity to spend time with them. When not working with them, he enjoyed taking family trips to amusement parks and riding the rides with his grandkids. While he did not take much time to just "sit around," when he did, he enjoyed kicking back and watching Illini football and basketball with his cherished dog "Einstein"
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10AM Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St., 61834 with Miles Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7PM on Monday, October 30, 2023, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Bills name to the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
