William 'Bill' Jeffrey Mccrone

William "Bill" Jeffrey McCrone, 68, of Westville died at 8:55 am, Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. Bill was born the youngest son to John and Vivian (Potter) McCrone on May 30, 1949 in Danville, IL. He was raised in the Central Park area of Tilton and attended Danville schools. After high school he enlisted in the Navy and proudly fought for his country in Vietnam. In 1973 he was honorably discharged from the Navy and joined the National Guard for two years. During his service with the National Guard he went to work at Peterson filling and packaging. It was there that his father, John, introduced him to a coworker, Jean Hayes; they celebrated their 44th anniversary in December of 2017. Bill left Peterson to go to work at Hyster, but soon returned and worked through all the changes in ownership, finally retiring from KIK in 2014. Bill loved to spend time watching his granddaughters compete in pageants and play sports. He also loved fishing and was looking forward to taking the boat out in the spring. He was always a phone call away if anyone needed help and generally had a smile on his face while doing it. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Jean and their only child, Kelli (Jason) Shepherd of Danville and two granddaughters, Baylee and Tinlee Shepherd. He is also survived by his two older brothers, Jim (Vickie) McCrone of Georgetown, IL and John McCrone Jr. of Oklahoma. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vivian McCrone and a very special friend Bob "Bubba" Ellis. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Rev. James Blue. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville with full military rites. Visitation will be held the evening prior on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
