William 'Bill' J. Hastings

William Bill J. Hastings, 87, of Danville, passed away at 1:45 p.m. March 30, 2010 at his home. Bill was born on November 28, 1922 in Danville, the son of Emery and Carrie (Hatfield) Hastings. He married Sally Bogan on September 30, 1975 in Danville by Judge Rita Garman. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters- Penny Hastings of Rantoul and Crystal Hastings of Danville; two step-sons- Roy Dodd of Santa Rosa, California and Barry (Darla) Dodd of Homer; two step-grandchildren- Taylor Dodd of Homer and Rosanne Dodd of Virginia; one niece- Karen Wilson; four nephews- Larry, David, Jessie and Jim Hastings; and three cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister- Barbara Eaton, brother- Robert Hastings and a nephew- Bobby Hastings Jr. Bill attended school in Danville. After school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1943 to 1946 on the USS Douglas A. Munro. After the Navy, Bill worked for the United States Postal Service in Danville for 31 years as a mail carrier, until he retired in 1979. After the post office he worked for 10 years at KAL bus lines. Bill played for the Elks Club bowling and golf leagues and every year he donated blood to the Elks Club annual blood drive. Bill was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. A graveside service for William Bill J. Hastings will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2010 at Greenwood Cemetery, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #210. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
