William (Bill) C. Hamilton III, 82, of Danville, IL, passed away 3:15 pm on February 24, 2022, at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born September 19, 1939, to William C. Hamilton Jr. and Edith Jean Wright in Hayward, California. He grew up in Hayward and San Leandro, CA and attended San Leandro High School. In 1961 Bill married Catherine Ann Codara in San Leandro, CA and they have two children, Dina (Aaron) Julian of Danville, IL and William C. Hamilton IV of Los Gatos, CA. Bill served in the United States Army from March 1958-Feb 1961. He was stationed at Fort Ord, Seaside, CA where he worked as Military Police. After his time in the military, Bill went to work for Montgomery Ward, then Pacific Gas & Electric. He then went to work for Peterson Tractor where he began his career working with heavy equipment. At Peterson he started out in the parts department and worked his way up to sales, where he became one of the top salesmen for many years. He left Peterson in the late 1970s to start his own business, MayCat Equipment and then Bill Hamilton & Son. He later worked for Granite Construction and eventually went back to Peterson Tractor where he retired in 2004. Bill loved sports, especially baseball. He played in a semi-pro league and then after getting married played many years on co-ed softball teams. He also spent many years coaching in the local Pony Baseball League. He also coached his granddaughter, Maddi in basketball at the YMCA. He enjoyed waterskiing, tennis and bowling. Bill was also an avid golfer throughout his life. One of his favorite courses to play was Pebble Beach in California. After retirement he golfed as many days of the week as he could. Bill also loved to build things. When he lived in California he built a rabbitry, and an aviary for his birds. After moving to Danville and living on the lake one of his favorite pastimes was taking the boat out and fishing. He loved spending time with friends and attending his granddaughters many concerts and other activities. Bill is survived by his spouse, children, grandchildren- Victoria , Madeline and Audrey, siblings- Donna (Jerry) Stephens, Linda Cadwell, Jon (Pam) Hamilton, Claudia Cadwell and brother-in-law Philip (Mary) Codara and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Jon Cadwell and Mark Cadwell. A Rosary will be Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 3:30 followed by the visitation from 4-6 pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N. Vermilion St., in Danville, IL. Funeral services will be Monday, March 7 at 10:30 am at St. Pauls Catholic Church, Danville, IL with Father Bo officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Danville, IL. Memorials or donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or St. Pauls Catholic Church.
