William F. (Bill) Schatz, 92 of Danville, Illinois passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Hawthorne Inn Assisted Living.
Bill was born July 31, 1930 at Lakeview Hospital in Danville, Illinois, son of Fred and Mary Schatz.
After Graduating from Danville High School in 1948, Bill went on to study Accounting at Indiana State in Terre Haute, IN. After receiving his B.A. in Accounting he joined the United States Air Force. Once his service was over he returned to Indiana State and received his M.S. in Special Education. Bill was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Social Fraternity as well as Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternity.
In high school Bill met his best friend and love of his life, Maryilln (Harris) Schatz, they later went on their first date while in college. They united in marriage on December 27, 1953 at St. James Methodist Church. Bill and Maryilln had a long and wonderful life together filled with love and happiness. They went on to have two wonderful children, Bill and Susan.
Bill began his journey teaching at Washington School. He went on to a teaching position in Special Education at Danville High School. Bill retired from Danville High School as a Guidance Counselor in 1990 after 35 years in the District 118 School System.
Bill, along with his wife Maryilln were avid theater lovers. Bill became a member of the Red Mask Players in 1955 and appeared in many plays- both on stage and back stage. He served as president and board member. Bill loved volunteering and helping out in the community whenever he could. He served as a Red Vest Volunteer at Presence U. S. Hospital for many years. Bill was a member of the YMCA, DEA, NEA, and St. James Food Pantry. In his free time Bill enjoyed playing tennis, racquetball, gardening and the occasional cross-word puzzle.
Bill is survived by his wife Maryilln Schatz, his children Bill Schatz (Janet) and Susan Catlett (Steven), his grandchildren Katie Schatz (Stacey Donovan), Michael Schatz (Jenny), Laura Schatz (Andy Lunday) all of Oregon, and Kelsee Landers (Brody Webb), Christopher Catlett (Shelby English) and Matthew Catlett (Karolina Hodurek) all of Danville, and his great-grandchildren Edith, Hazel, Lydia, Caden and Ryien.
Bill was a loving husband, and amazing father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he has touched.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the Nursing Staff at Hawthorne Inn. Thank you for showing so much care and compassion for Bill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St James United Methodist Church or Red Mask Theater in Bills memory.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM Monday June 5, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Reverend Randall Robinson will officiate. Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2-3:00 PM on Monday June 5, 2023 at the funeral home.
