William 'Bill' Elliot

William R. Bill Elliot, 95, of Covington, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 9:50am at Whitlock Place, Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was born in Chicago, IL on July 27, 1926, the son of Russell F. and Pearl M. {Strawser} Elliot. He was united in marriage to S. Jayne Starkey on June 24, 1956, at Stone Bluff Methodist Church, Veedersburg, IN. Sharing their lives for 58 years, until her passing in 2014. Bill is survived by his granddaughter, Laura Jayne (Jeremy) Elliot Burgess of Pickerington, Ohio, great granddaughter, Natalie Lynn Fares, his "special helper" nephew, Dennis (Denise) Starkey and his many wonderful relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Barry R. Elliot on April 25, 2014, and his wife, S. Jayne Elliot on November 3, 2014 and also his grandson, Bradley William Fares on January 19, 2011. Bill was a graduate of Covington High School in 1944 and attended Watchmakers School in Terre Haute after working at Jacks Watch Shop and Spritz Jewelers in Danville, IL. He opened a shop in Brooks Ben Franklin Store in Covington for seven years. He then moved to the north side of the square into the old post office building for ten years. He last moved to the Sprague Department Store where he operated his shop for 18 years retiring in 1988. He later moved to the Whitlock Place in Crawfordsville in September of 2019 where he met many new friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Bill will be held at 11:00am (EST), Friday, November 12, 2021, at Benson Chapel United Methodist Church, 7114 US Hwy 136, Covington, IN 47932 with visitation being held for one hour prior to the service at the Church. He was accorded cremation rites and will be laid to rest next to his wife and son in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington.
