Paris, Ill. - William "Bill" D. Hartman, 93, a resident of Life's Journey Senior Living and formerly of Parke County, Indiana; Dana, Indiana; Scotland, Illinois and Cayuga, Indiana, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 1:31 p.m. CDT at Paris Community Hospital in Paris, Illinois. He was born January 23, 1923 in Bridgeton, Indiana, the son of the late William O. and Lilly Mary (Jollief) Hartman. Bill first married Eleanor K. Kerr on August 15, 1942 in Parke County, Indiana. She preceded him in death on March 14, 1998. He later married Doyne DeArmond Bishop on January 14, 2001. She preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Mary (Lenny) Cremeans of Tallahassee, Florida; Lois (Morris) Chesnut of Ridge Farm, Illinois; two sons, Bill W. (Linda) Hartman of Brooksville, Florida; Tim (Kathy) Hartman of Dana, Indiana; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Bill was a graduate of Bridgeton High School and attended DeVry Technical School in Chicago, Illinois. He served during W.W. II in the Army Air Corp and was a B-17 pilot with the rank of Flight Officer. He was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars, ATO Ribbon, Victory Ribbon W.W. II and 1 Overseas Service Bar. He was a retired pipefitter with the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local #157 of Terre Haute, Indiana. Bill was a 60 year member and held a gold card with the union. He was co-owner of Eleanor Ceramics in Scotland, Illinois retiring from there in December of 1997. He was a former member of the Cayuga American Legion. His current memberships included the Cayuga Presbyterian Church, Cayuga Senior Club and the Paris, Illinois American Legion. Funeral services: Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. EDT at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Morris Chesnut; Burial: Bono Cemetery in Bono, Indiana with military honors; Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. EDT Friday, October 28, 2016 at the funeral home.
