William 'Bill' C. Barr Jr.

William Bill Curtis Barr Jr. 91, of Danville, passed this Life on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at his home. He was born on February 21, 1919, in Newport, Indiana, the son of William C. Barr Sr. and Grace (Wise) Barr. In 1945, Bill married Lola May Boggess. They were married for 60 years until her passing in 2006. Survivors include their four children, John (Jennifer) Barr of Springbay, IL, Tom (Marilyn) Barr of Marble Falls, TX, Bob (Terry) Barr of Elk Grove Village, IL, and Kathy (Steve) Webb of Perrysville, IN. His nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and his brother, Dan Marvin Barr of Ohio also survive him. Also preceding Bill in death are his parents, and his brother, Charles Barr. Bill served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945, as Tank Commander for the 706 Tank BN, 77th Infantry Division stationed in the Philippines, Guam, IE Shima, and Okinawa. After the service, he worked as a meat cutter for Davies Packing Company in Danville, a night stocker for the Kroger Supermarket Company for 16 years, and as a farmer in the Cayuga, IN, and Ridge Farm, IL, area for 35 years. Bill was a member of the North Side Church of Christ in Bismarck and the Danville American Legion Post #210. He enjoyed woodworking, watching westerns, solving jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his family. A Celebration of the Life of William C. Barr Jr. is scheduled for 3 pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville with burial and full Military Honors conducted by the Danville American Legion Post #210 at Pleasant Mound Cemetery in Georgetown. Officiating will be Jim Russell and Jimmy Hodges. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1-3pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the funeral home.
