William A. McLain, 75, of Cayuga, IN, died on Monday, August 8, 2022, at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 23, 1947, in Clinton, IN, to William H. and Margie McLain. Bill graduated from North Vermillion High School in 1965. He served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968 and was stationed in Korea for the majority of his time. He became a Civil Service member in 1970. Bill served as a fireman on the Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department from 1973 to 1983 and in 1982, served as the Chief. He was employed at PSI/Duke in 1975 until his retirement in 2014. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family. He wanted people to remember him as a nice guy and helpful and that when he did work for someone that he didnt want anything in return. He is survived by his wife, Mary, whom he married on February 14, 1994; his daughters, Anne McLain, Eleanor (George) Coonce, and BJo (Brian) Taskey; his 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Shirley Noble, Jim McLain, & Patsy (Tim) Means. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tommy McLain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Bills name to the Cayuga American Legion or Cayuga Fire Department. A celebration of Bills life will be held 2:00pm to 5:00pm, Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Cayuga American Legion Post #263, 922 W Ferry St, Cayuga, IN 47928 with Military Honors. As were his wishes, he will be accorded cremation rites. His family has entrusted his arrangements to Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, DeVerter Chapel, 215 N.
