Willard Dale Thornton, born on May 24, 1954, in Danville, Illinois, passed away on April 3, 2025, in Danville, Illinois. He dedicated 42 years of his life to housekeeping at OSF Sacred Heart in Danville, embodying a work ethic matched only by his remarkable kindness. Willard was known for having the biggest heart; nobody was ever a stranger to him.
Among his many interests, he found joy in dancing, attending church, spending tranquil days at the lake watching boats, fishing, shopping, and riding his bicycle. Each of these hobbies reflected his lively spirit and love for life.
Willard is survived by his siblings: Brenda (Kenny) Jackson, Rocky (Cathy) Thornton, Todd Thornton, Randy (Debbie) Thornton, and Mike Thornton. He is also remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews: Billy, Daniel, Kathy, Heather, April, Jada, Rocky, James, Mendy, and Meredith, as well as his great nephews, Zander and Tristan. He leaves behind a brother-in-law, Jim Urley.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Majorie (Glassford) Thornton; father, Bernard Thornton; sisters, Beverly Thornton and Bernadine Thornton; and brothers, Gary Thornton and Joe Peto. Willard's legacy of warmth and affection will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him.
