Wilhelm R. Schmit, 70, of Rural Danville, IL passed away December 31, 2006 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born April 17, 1936, in McLaughlin, SD son of Jacob and Martha Klaudt Schmit. He married Sandra Kay Cook on August 2, 1991 at the Vermilion County Courthouse. She survives along with Sons: Wilhelm Raymond (Kathy) Schmit Jr. of Chocowinity, NC, Douglas (Barbara) Schmit of Fithian, Denis (Wanda) Schmit of Catlin, and Michael Schmit of Champaign; Grandchildren: Scott, Douglas II, Jeffrey, Jacob, Ben, Alex, Mabel Claire Schmit & Lauren (Jason) Redman; Sisters: Dorothy (Louie) Wilson & Faye (Don) Camp; Brother: Francis (Norma) Schmit, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and Sister Lauretta Minnie Walker and her husband Joe. Wilhelm was a graduate of Danville area schools and worked for the U of I for seventeen years as a sheet metal worker. Later he owned and operated Central Sheet Metal retiring after 30 + years. He enjoyed his own saw mill, part time farming, was a tractor enthusiast, and his passion was his dogs Ruffy Ann that passed in May of this year and Tuffy Lynn & Shadow Marie. A Celebration of Wilhelms life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel with Pastors Greg Robbins and Darren Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Wednesday evening at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Stearns cemetery in Fithian.
