Wilbur Spesard

Wilbur Spesard, 91, of Ridge Farm, passed away on Wednesday February 2, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Wilbur was born August 31, 1930 to Foster and Naomi (Archer) Spesard. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Mosier, in Indianola on February 4, 1951. She preceded him in death. Wilbur leaves behind his children: Terri (Jay) Tate of Ridge Farm, Kathy Spesard of Simpsonville SC, Mike (Roseann) Spesard of Ridge Farm, Jane (Lon) Gardner of Terre Haute IN, Sonna (Scott) Rodgers of Ridge Farm, Lisa (Rusty) Akers of Maricopa AZ, and Steve (Mendy) Spesard of Ridge Farm, fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Also surviving is his sister Wilma (Kenneth) Lewis of Deland FL. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie, one daughter Karen (Spesard) Rhoads, two brothers Dean and Robert Spesard, and a sister Judith Rademacher. Wilbur was a lifetime grain and livestock farmer. He milked cows on the family farm each morning before attending high school at Indianola. Then raised registered Holsteins and operated a dairy on his own farm. And later raised registered Yorkshire and Hampshire hogs. He was well known in the regional fairs, both showing and judging, and at National livestock exhibitions. He supported local 4-H activities and was a mentor to those starting their own herds. More recently, Wilbur enjoyed watching his sons compete with their IPA pulling tractors. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm at 11AM. Wilburs family has entrusted Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown with his final wishes.
