Wendell 'Sonny' Phillips

Wendell Sonny Phillips, 86, of Georgetown, passed away at 10:29am, Thursday, March 16, 2023, at his home. He was born in Ridge Farm, IL, on August 8, 1936, the son of Vernon and Elsie {Banta} Phillips. He was united in marriage to Mary Rose Start on February 12, 1960, until her passing on June 19, 2018.

Sonny is survived by his children, Duane Phillips, of Burke, VA, Lee Phillips of Colorado Springs, CO, and Janet (Travis) Gullberg of Vancouver, WA; his grandchildren, Kelly, Weston, & Landen; and his brother, Larry (Bertie) Phillips of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Sue Lamkin; and his brother, Don Phillips.

Sonny served in the US Army at the end of the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1956. After leaving the Army, he worked the rest of his life as a heavy equipment operator, Truck Operator, Mechanic, and Business Owner. He enjoyed working on Ford tractors and taking care of his large yard after his retirement.

A celebration of Sonnys life will be held graveside at 1:00pm on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Crown Hill Cemetery, Ridge Farm.
