Wayne Smith

Wayne Smith 70, of Georgetown passed away at 10:47a.m. Tuesday May 5, 2009 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born October 22, 1939 in State Line, IN, the son of Alfred L. and Juanita knight Smith. Wayne married Shirley Sykes on July 22, 1989 in Covington; she preceded him on December 5, 2000. Those who will miss him is a daughter;Luan (Kurt) Johnson of Westville, a step-daughter Denise (John) Dunlop of Gilbert, AZ, three brothers; Gene Smith of Danville, Ron (Donnee) Smith of Schererville, IN, Larry (Lori) Smith of Muncie, Il, one sister Cherie (Richard) Astell of West Lebanon, IN, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter. Wayne was employed with Material Service Corporation in Fairmount and retired in 2002 after 30 years of Service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1957 to 1965 with an honorable discharge. Wayne enjoyed woodworking, travel, and was a fan of N.A.S.C.A.R. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family and friends. As per his wishes he will be cremated and a Celebration of life memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 9, 2009 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown. Officiating will be Randy Holden. Burial will follow the service in the Georgetown Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Georgetown American Legion Post # 203.
