Wayne R. Whited

Wayne Russell Whited, 88 years old, Savoy, IL passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024 at 5:25pm surrounded by his loved ones.

Wayne was born on April 7, 1936, in Streator, IL.

He married the love of his life, Linda Lee Bryson, on September 4, 1960. They were blessed to have 4 children. Jeffrey David (deceased); Cheryl (Tim); Pamela (Scott); Kenny (Christina). He loved his 5 grandchildren (Ryne, Haley, John, Aubree, and Alec) and his 5 great-grandchildren (Sawyer, Ellie, Colt, Grady, and Cal).

Wayne served in the US Army Reserves for 8 years. He graduated from Illinois State University and earned two masters degrees at the University of Illinois.

Wayne loved his career in the Champaign School District as a PE Teacher, Coach, and Drivers Education Instructor. He often told his family, "If you love what you do, its not work." He proved that philosophy by finally retiring at 80 years young.

Wayne enjoyed visiting the Champaign Public Library daily and reading the newspaper with his coffee. He loved fishing with Linda and teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish. He loved designing football plays by the hours.

Wayne was respected and loved by his family, many friends, former students and athletes. We will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, April 30, at Sunset's Champaign Chapel, 710 N. Neil Street, Champaign, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Sunset's Champaign Chapel.
