Wayne Mingee

Danville Wayne Mingee, 86, of Champaign, formerly of Danville, passed away at 3:54 PM on March 8, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Wayne was born on June 13, 1936 the son of Russell and Helen (Walters) Mingee in Danville. He married Marilyn Kay Walker on June 30th, 1955, in Shawneetown, Illinois and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2012.

Survivors include his two daughters, Cheryl A. Hayden of Tilton and Debra K. (Tom) Millikan of Savoy, Illinois; four grandchildren, Chasity (Shawn) Schmidt of Fairmount, Cory L. (Jennifer) Allen of Champaign, Amy (Jim) Keller of Richmond, North Carolina and Ryan (Chelsie) Elmer of Mahomet; nine great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister, Connie (Jerry Armstrong of Danville, IL and a special aunt, Betty Smith of Danville, IL. Wayne is also survived by a special friend, Marsha Rambow of Champaign, Marshas son David (Lindsey) Rambow of Indiana and their son, Hunter, who referred to Wayne as "Poppy".

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marilyn Mingee.

Wayne is retired from the shoe industry with a long time career with the Mosser Family. He was a member of St James United Methodist Church where he was very active and taught Sunday School for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending car shows and was an avid Illini fan.

The family requests casual "Illini Attire" be worn in honor of Wayne and his love for University of Illinois basketball.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Reverend Randall Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 1-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
