Urbana - Wayne E. Bonnell, 92, of Urbana, formerly of Sidney, passed away at 10:27 PM on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on January 20, 1924 in Sidney to Clarence and Ethel (Consoer) Bonnell. He married Lois M. Mitchell on June 22, 1946 in Champaign. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2005 after 59 years of marriage. Wayne is survived by his companion, Betty Daly of Urbana; six children, Teresa Fearer of Scottsdale, AZ, Steve (Sharon) Bonnell of Waukesha, WI, Julie (Bruce) Setloff of Las Vegas, NV, Greg (Sue) Bonnell of Heyworth, IL, Sue (Bowie) Daly of Philo, IL, and Laura (Jeff) Jones of Monticello, IL; 15 grandchildren, Tracie (Paul) Embi, Stefanie Bonnell, Andrew (Lori) Bonnell, Cara Bonnell, Emily (Brian) Reinhardt, Brent (Chrissy) Bonnell, Daniel Bonnell, Courtney Bonnell, Nicole Bonnell, Leo Daly, Devin Daly, Janna Daly, Jeremy (Sarah) Jones, Jason (Lauren) Jones, and Jaylyn (Zach) Craven; 11 great-grandchildren, Eloise, Josephine, Millicent, Jaxson, Abigail, Colgan, Lilly, Makenzie, Aubree, Hayden, and Addison; two brothers, Jack (Barbara) Bonnell and Don (Jim Nelson) Bonnell; brother-in-law Glen Lafenhagen; three sisters-in-law, Millie Bonnell, Jean Bonnell, and Bonita Bonnell; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Wayne was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Jr., Bill, Jim, and Dean, sister Mary Jean Lafenhagen, son-in-law William Fearer II, and a granddaughter, Annie Sue Daly. Wayne served his country in the United States Navy beginning with his enlistment in September of 1941. He served throughout WWII as a Fire Control Specialist and was discharged in 1947. However, he was called back to active duty and served again in the Korean War in 1951. After his military service, Wayne was a contractor and had a long career in construction. He built and remodeled many homes, but also was the general contractor for the St. Thomas Catholic School and Convent in Philo. Wayne was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post #433 for 70 years. He also loved sports of all kind, but especially enjoyed Chicago Cubs baseball. He loved his work and family, and will also be remembered as a devoted father, husband, grandpa, and brother. A Mass of Christian Burial for Wayne will be held at 10:15 AM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Philo. Father Robert Lampitt will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Sidney where Sidney American Legion Post #433 will perform military honors. Visitation will be held from 9-10 AM on Tuesday, also at St. Thomas, with a Rosary Service to be held at 8:30 AM. Sunset's Champaign-Urbana Chapel is in Charge of arrangements.
