Wayne Curtis Smith, 95, of Danville, passed away at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, January 15th, 2012, at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville. Wayne was born on January 6th, 1917, in Bismarck, Illinois, the son of Isaac F. and Abigail (Deck) Smith. He married Ethel Ray on November 19th, 1938, in Covington. She preceded him in death on April 7th, 1989. He is survived by a son- Curt W. (Ana) Smith of Queretaro, Mexico; daughter-in-law- Maggie Smith of Dyer, Indiana; one sister- Dorotha Reese of Danville; two grandchildren- Steve (Carlene) Smith and Staci Smith both of Portage, Indiana; three great-grandchildren- Keygen Smith, Karyssa Smith and Brittney Beers; one great-great granddaughter- Laci Young; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers- Clyde Smith, Arthur Smith, Otto Smith, Otis Smith, Clelan Smith and Alfred Smith and five sisters- Gernie Smith, Gertrude Allison, Grace Smith, Fleeta Larsen, and Villa Cork. Wayne started working as a young man helping his dad with the farm. He worked most of his life as a farmer in the Fairmount area. He later worked for the Walter Danville Corporation. Wayne loved to work, he was always staying busy by fixing things or tinkering around in his shop. He also enjoyed spending his time with family and friends. A Celebration of the life of Wayne Curtis Smith will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18th, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Pastor Herbert D. Smith officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
