Warren Leo Sprouls, 99, of McKendree Township, Georgetown, IL, passed away at his home on November 30, 2022. He was born April 26, 1923, in McKendree Township to Grover Cleveland and Carrie Jessie {Jenkins} Sprouls. He was united in marriage to Mary Gayle Woodruff on September 14, 1946, until her passing on November 25, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Raymond and John Willis, and his sister, Vergie. Warren was born to a farming family, and that was his chosen profession. He started working on the farm with horses as a young boy. He and Mary lived on the present Sprouls farm since 1951 and purchased the property in 1955. He acquired additional acreage, and together they built a very successful farming business. He also worked with his brothers in their Sprouls Brothers Building Contractors business. Warren passed onto his children the value of a strong work ethic. He was a member of the Friends Church in Georgetown. Additionally, he served on the Wingard Grade School board for several years and was a trustee for the McKendree Cemetery. Warren played football in high school, and in his adult years he enjoyed bowling, playing euchre and pinochle, as well as watching football, baseball, and basketball. He was a Cubs fan and Fighting Illini fan. Before marrying and starting a farming business, Warren served in the US Navy during WWII. He enlisted on February 11, 1944, and was honorably discharged on May 30, 1946. He had basic training at Great Lakes, and then he had specialized training in Memphis Ordnance School. He was an Aviation Ordnance Petty Officer Second Class when he was discharged. He was in Japan, China, Okinawa and several Pacific islands after the War ended. Warren leaves three children, Eric (Linda), Mark (Lin), and Julie (Gary) Tibbs; seven grandchildren, Steven Sprouls, Katie (Sean Chappell) Sprouls, Jeff Smith, Troy (Jennifer) Smith, Andrew (Jordyn) Tibbs, Meghan (Evan) Tibbs Duvall, and Zachary (Elizabeth) Tibbs; nine great grandchildren, Conner, Skylar, Madelyn, Mackenzie, Gavin, Carter, Zoe, Clara, and Emilia, as well as nieces and nephews. As per his wishes, there were no funeral services held. A Memorial service will be held on April 29, 2023, at the Sprouls family farm. His arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846.
