Wanda Silkwood

Wanda Silkwood, 87, of Rockville, IN passed away September 5, 2015 in Terre Haute, IN. She was born September 17, 1927 in Mecca, Indiana to Aarol Jacks and Mary Haughee. Wanda married Lester Silkwood on August 4, 1946 in Mecca, IN. He preceded her in death in 2011. Surviving family members include; children, Mary Elizabeth (Joseph) Reel of Rockville,IN, Thomas W. (Gayle) Silkwood of Chiang Mai, Thailand; brother, Paul Maurice (Betty) Jacks; grandchildren; Christian Shalei (Dan) Webb, Danyel LaCheon (David) Moon, Jeffrey Thomas (Mary) Silkwood, Kimberly Ann (Chase) Pittman and Kari Lynn (Dustin) DeNeal, great grandchildren; Zoe Webb, Hamzah Dakota, Szavannah and Jazper Moon, Josiah and Violet Silkwood and Eden DeNeal. Wanda's parents, husband and brother, Aarol B. Jacks, Jr. preceded her in death. Wanda was a devout Christian, baptized in the running waters through Mecca, IN at Big Raccoon Creek. Wanda graduated Mecca High School in 1945. She attended Rockville Christian Church, then moved and attended Northland Christian Church and most recently Second Church of Christ. Wanda was an office manager at Taylor Construction prior to owning and operating Rockville Hardware Store with Lester and managing Skel Gas in Rockville in the 1960's. A celebration of Wanda's life will be held Friday, September 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Drew Mentzer officiating. An hour of visitation will be held prior from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion St., Danville. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Wanda's name to the American Alzheimer's Association, the Greater Illinois Chapter, 8430 West Bryn Mawr, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631.
