Wanda Ann Gondry

Wanda Ann Gondry (Chrostowski), age 90, passed away peacefully at Traditions at Hunter Station in Sellersburg, Indiana, on February 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Wanda was born on October 25, 1935, in Westville, Illinois, to Stanley and Anna (Strako)Chrostowski. She was raised alongside her sister, Christine, after the tragic loss of their father, who was killed in a coal mining accident in Westville when Wanda was just two years old. Despite this hardship, Wanda grew up in a close-knit, loving family that always supported one another in times of need.

She graduated from Schlarman Catholic High School in 1953. On November 29, 1958, she married the love of her life, Vincent "Vince" Gondry, of Tilton, Illinois. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work, raising four children.

In her younger years, Wanda worked as a secretary alongside her sister, Christine Christian (Chrostowski), at the La Salette Seminary, contributing to Our Lady's Digest in Georgetown, Illinois. Wanda and Vince later owned and operated Vincent Apartments, Designer Homes, and Vincent Construction. Wanda was truly the backbone of these businesses-doing the books, signing leases, cleaning and painting apartments, and helping finish homes Vince was building. She was a tireless, supportive wife and mother who never hesitated to roll up her sleeves.

Wanda also owned a small gift shop, CNW Gift World, in Westville, where she sold ceramic figurines and gifts-something she greatly enjoyed.

A devoted Catholic, Wanda was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She and Vince faithfully supported church events, especially the annual St. Mary's Fish Fry and the La Salette Annual Barbecue in Georgetown-events they never missed.

Wanda had a heart for children and served as a foster parent to many through Catholic Social Services. Letting go was never easy for her, as she grew deeply attached to the children she cared for and loved.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures-springtime mushroom hunting with Vince and the kids (with Devon always by her side), gardening with her Uncle Joe Strako, canning tomatoes, and freezing fresh vegetables from the garden. She loved morning walks with her sister Christine, Patty Jenkins, her daughter Pamela Gondry, and Sue Byers, believing it was the perfect way to start the day.

Wanda loved to bake, especially her famous banana bread, and was well known for showing up with a homemade cake whenever someone had a birthday. That was Wanda-always thinking of others, always giving, always helping. She would do anything for anyone.

Wanda is survived by her daughters, Angela Falconio (Robert) Gondry of Westville, IL, and Pamela (Don) Gondry-Howard of Jeffersonville, IN; her son, Vincent Gondry Jr. of Santa Maria, CA; her sister, Christine (David)Christian of Westville, IL; her grandchildren, Danny (Candace) Hardesty Jr. ,Dustin (Christine) Hardesty, Brandon Gondry, Brittney Gondry, Michael Heath, Devon(Brittany) Gondry, and Brianne (Kevin), Ryan, and Zachary (Abbie); and her great-grandchildren, Tanner, Elisha, Dylan, Arlo, Hadley, Della, Hattie, Sophia, Harper, Asher, Cierra (Justin), Tripp, and Taylor; as well as her great-great-grandchildren, Maybelle, and Jax.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Gondry; her daughter, Laura Gondry; and her grandson, Brian Duez.

Wanda Ann Gondry will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, faithful servant of the Church, and a woman whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives.
