Walter Richter

Walter Wayne "Red" Richter, 78, of Danville passed away on March 23, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, with family by his side. Walter was born in Danville at home on July 17, 1937 the son of Cecil and Marian (Smith) Richter. He married Esther Ritter on August 29, 1964, she survives. Also surviving Walter are four children Robert (Lorrie) Reed Sr., Gail Wilson, Diane (Mark) Baysore and Russell (Nancy) Richter, nine grandchildren; Robert (Brook) Reed Jr., Christopher Reed, Travis Reed, Ryan Leiss, Jennifer Cox, Sarah Richter, Sophia Richter, Justin Baysore, Joshua Baysore, three great grandchildren, two brothers; Larry (Charlotte) Richter and David (Ruth) Richter. Walter was preceded in death by his parents. Walter served in the United States Army, spending three years in Germany. He worked at R & S Printing for close to forty years, retiring from JJ Collins Printing. Walter enjoyed traveling with his wife Esther, playing softball, golf and collecting model trains. He was an avid sports fan, the Fighting Illini, Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals were at the top of the list. He loved family cookouts and spending time with his loved ones. A celebration of Walters life will be at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center on Tuesday March 29, 2016 at 10am. Visitation will be on Monday March 28, 2016 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Burial will be Sunset Memorial Park following the service. Memorials may be made in Walters name to the Feed The Children Backpack program in Danville.
